Insulated wire ferrules are crimped over stranded wire to secure the strands within a screw terminal. The insulation protects parts of the wire that are not fully covered by the screw terminal. Wire ferrules are used to easily install cables and wires in control cabinets or similar areas. Especially when dealing with flexible wires that have many single strands, you should use insulated wire ferrules.
They have the additional benefit of a plastic insulation made out of polyamide 6.6. It is available in different colours, which are used to represent the diameter of the wire. Generally, insulated wire ferrules are superior over uninsulated ones. However, the plastic insulation collar can take up too much space in narrow areas.
The insulation has many important benefits. For example, it makes the electrical contact safe, even if the contact is broken and reestablished multiple times. It creates long-lasting operational safety by reducing the risk of cable break and damages caused by vibration.
Do you know which measurements the insulated wire ferrules need to have for your area of application? Always choose the smallest inner diameter! However, it should not be small to the point where it would put constant pressure on the cable.
Twin wire ferrules
Twin wire ferrules are also used to secure stranded wire inside a screw terminal. They protect the fine strands from damage, short-circuiting and corrosion. Twin wire ferrules are specifically used to connect two cable strands in a single screw terminal.
The plastic insulation is made out of polyamide 6.6. Our twin wire ferrules resist temperatures of -10°C up to +105°C (briefly 120°C), which makes them useful in a multitude of situations.
